How It Works

Understanding BeFriend. More than a virtual sign language interpretation.

A clear look at what BeFriend is, who is involved, and how organizations can explore bringing interpretation into customer interactions.

What BeFriend is

BeFriend is a virtual sign language interpretation solution developed by Well Agency. It helps organizations explore how remote interpretation can support communication between Deaf customers and service teams.

The role of professional interpreters

Sign language interpreters facilitate communication between people who use a sign language and people who use a spoken language. Their role is to convey meaning accurately and impartially so both parties can communicate directly with each other.

How virtual interpretation supports interactions

Through a video connection, an interpreter can join a customer interaction remotely. The Deaf customer signs to the interpreter, the interpreter voices for the service team, and the interpreter signs the team’s responses back.

Exploring implementation

Every organization operates differently. We start with a conversation about your customer touchpoints, locations, and needs, and then discuss what a suitable service arrangement could look like.

Geographic Reach & Support

Built around each organization.

  • Adapted to Each Organization

Every company has different structures, processes, and goals. That’s why we design specific solutions adapted to each organization.

  • No Geographic Restrictions

As a virtual service, BeFriend can be available across an organization’s entire network of offices and service points — in banks, clinics, pharmacies, supermarkets, restaurants, and other service locations.

  • Comprehensive Support & Strategic Analysis

BeFriend is more than an interpretation service: it’s a complete support system that includes advisory, training, ongoing technical support, and usage reports and indicators.

Precision & Adaptability

Three ways to communicate, one service.

BeFriend covers the three main communication needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing people, including those who cannot read or write.

  1. People who sign

Interpretation in LSC and ASL by certified interpreters.

  2. People who don’t sign but can write

    Complementary chat or closed captioning.

  3. People who neither sign nor write

A communication system based on pictures and symbols to express needs and receive clear answers, built around each organization’s specific services.

Certifications & Standards

Standards we work to.

  • Certified LSC interpreters, working to accessibility and inclusion standards.
  • The solution follows corporate information security standards.
  • Designed to support organizations’ accessibility efforts under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Languages & Availability

BeFriend promotes support for American Sign Language (ASL) and Colombian Sign Language (LSC). These are separate languages with their own grammar and vocabulary; they are not interchangeable, and an interpreter qualified in one is not automatically qualified in the other.

The exact access process, response times, language coverage, and availability depend on the applicable service arrangement.

Language Availability

Sign Language Support That Respects Language Differences.

Sign languages are not universal. BeFriend promotes support for American Sign Language (ASL) and Colombian Sign Language (LSC), subject to service availability, location, and the applicable service arrangement.

  • ASLAmerican Sign Language
  • LSCColombian Sign Language

ASL and LSC are distinct languages, each requiring qualified interpreters.
